Meta's Vibes Platform: AI-Generated Video Discovery Reimagined
Meta joined the AI video race in late September with Vibes, a new feed nestled within its Meta AI app and on meta.ai.
Recently OpenAI also announced the launch of Sora 2 platform. Although not much is known as that platform has a limited release as of this writing (only in US/Canada regions), Vibes is designed around discovery and creation rather than traditional social networking.
The platform is powered by Movie Gen, Meta's AI video generation system that can create 16-second clips at 16 frames per second from text prompts. It lets users modify existing videos by changing backgrounds, adding objects, or completely altering visual styles without specialized skills.
The system also generates synchronized audio, including ambient sound, effects, and background music, making it a comprehensive content creation tool rather than just a video generator.
Meta has been clear about its intentions to integrate these tools into Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp eventually, positioning Vibes as the testing ground for broader deployment. This cross-platform strategy can make Vibes a powerful tool for marketers and content creators if Meta plays its cards right.
Reactions have been mixed — while some praise the creative freedom, others criticize the feed for being overwhelmed with "AI slop"—a term for repetitive, low-quality machine-generated content. That said, the underlying AI models are evolving fast, with Meta collaborating with industry leaders like Midjourney and Black Forest Labs alongside its own research.
The company emphasizes that these tools should complement rather than replace human creativity, though the implications for content creators are still being debated across the industry.
For now, Vibes remains in research preview mode, giving Meta time to refine the technology before mainstream deployment.
